In 1965:
- The first United States combat troops arrived in Vietnam.
- President Lyndon Baines Johnson announced his vision of the "Great Society"
- Dr. Martin Luther King and 2,600 others were arrested in Selma, AL .
- The average income was $6,450, and the average house price was $13,600.
- The Sound of Music premiered, and was an instant success.
- The Grammys selected "September of My Year" by Frank Sinatra as the Album of the Year.
- The Beatles released the movie and album HELP
- The mini-skirt designed by Mary Quant appeared in London.
- The Ford Motor Company introduced one of their most popular models, the 1965 Mustang.
and on this day in Salinas, California, I was born.
25 years ago, if someone would have told me I would be celebrating my 46th birthday as a home schooling Mom of a three and a five year old, I would have laughed and ask what were they drinking. At the time, I was stationed in Germany as a supply specialist with in the United States Army. Motherhood was NOT on my mind.
My life is proof God has a sense of humor. Trust in the Lord, and be careful what you ask for, because He will answer your prayers.
My best birthday gift?
Yesterday, Ladybug, my five year old, came up and gave me a hug. She looked up at me, her beautiful black eyes twinkling, and said,
"Mommy, you look like a teenager!"
So, how has God surprised you?
Happy birthday, teenager! (That's just *too* adorable!)

Wow I would have never guessed you were in the military. That is awesome but what a change for you and isn't it wonderful God's sense of humor included two precious little ones??
Happy Birthday and hope it will be a great day for you.

Happy Birthday you young thing.
My boy tells everyone I'm 22 and who am I to stop him?
If someone would have told me 10 years ago I would be a mom of two boys (a stay at home mom at that) living in Wahoo NE. I would have asked them what they were smokin.
ha ha
Happy Birthday to my dear friend Miss Mary Mack!
And..... you do look like a teenager.

Happy Birthday! I am a new reader - followed your link from Conversion Diary.
Oddly - the 1965 Mustang was actually introduced on April 17, 1964 - which happens to be my birthday and my mom made a big deal out of this...odd too. ;D

Becky,
I went to boot camp and AIT in Fort Jackson too. What a small world!

**I** I went to basic and AIT at Jackson, too!!!! (1983/1984) TANK HILL! (which, btw, has been torn down ~ well, not the tank, but its been painted. those old barracks are gone. I went to our son's graduation about 18 months ago and it's all new buildings or metal temporary ones. No more WWII buildings.)

Happy birthday, again, Mary!
