This summer I decided to tackle one big task a week and blog about it. I thought it would give me some incentive to complete the task. To do so, I am hooking up with 5 Minutes for Mom for Tackle it Tuesday.
Saturday was our “CLEAN OUT THE GARAGE” Day. Since my husband, Mr. Grand Knight, has such a busy schedule, I had to plan this day well in advance and place it on his calendar. I even procured childcare! I forgot how productive the two of us can be without children. The entire activity was quick and painless. Even more amazing, is how good I feel anytime I step into my garage which I do quite often since my washer and dryer reside there. My six year old, Ladybug, was very excited, "Mommy, it's as clean as a whistle, "she exclaimed, "It looks like a new house!" Not bad for a 47 year old garage...
Here are some of the before and after shots:
All the hazardous items have been placed out of reach of little hands. We created a "kid friendly" bottom shelf for the girls, one box houses helmets, knee pads and skates, another box has sidewalk chalk, another holds balls and sports gear. The girls can easily get to their bikes and wagon.
We can actually open the back door! We placed my oldest daughter's beloved Spiderman bike, which she as outgrown, in a safe place now.
Looks great! I nedd to do the same in my basement. Thanks for inspiring me.

Very impressive!! I need to join in--thanks for the inspiration!
PS--thanks for your comment about my job interview...things appear to be full speed ahead as I have two more interviews set up now for the position. Yikes! I've been thinking that our lives are mirror images as I may be going back to being a "business mommy" as I tell the kids after 12 yrs at home full-time, while you've been home for a year after an accomplished professional career. Isn't it amazing what we mid-40s mommies will do?! :) Of course I'm totally freaking out, and hope to blog more about it soon--I've been holding off to wait and see what happens. But this one seems quite likely at this point. Again--yikes!
All the best to you & happy summer!

You've got a definite keeper there. What is that big white thing? We need to attack our garage too but more of a "we can't keep everything" kind of clean up.
Good luck to KimD in WI on her job search. I've also been away from working for 13yrs.

:-) HMMM my youngest is now 26 and I still have his "toys" and those of his brothers around here. Of course Pops has the garage full of his "toys" also so I try not to go there. Great job, Mary!

Kyooty,
That big white thing is a Dobsonian telescope. Rick is an amateur astronomer, although he hasn't been observing the night sky as much as he did when it was just the two of us. Eventually, he would like to take the girls camping and observing. Since we live in the big city there is a lot of light pollution so you have to drive awhile for a dark sky.

I am so glad to hear that the interview went well. My thoughts and prayers are with you as you transition back to working Mom. God bless you and your family.
