Last week Bumblebee had her four year old check-up at the pediatrician. I like her doctor, she is a Mom first, doctor second. While Dr. S genuinely loves children; she is also a practical, no nonsense type of gal. She always starts the appointment like a game asking Bumblebee questions, and pretending Dora was in Bumblebee’s ear. At the end of the check-up, Dr. S. said she was amazed at Bumblebee’s social and developmental progress in the past year, and that she deserved a pat on the back which she did, which Bumblebee thought that was hilarious. In this new job of mine, sometimes, I do not feel I get much recognition, but that day I felt the sacrifices my family is making for me to stay home really are paying off.

One of the results of the visit, we found out Bumblebee needs eye glasses. She did wonderful on the eye chart with both eyes, and with the right eye, but when it came to the left eye it was a different story. The pediatrician recommended a good children’s’ eye doctor.

Just when I start worrying about how I am going to pay for new eye glasses, I am offered an opportunity to help out a friend and make a little extra money. Thank you, God.

The swamp fire still drags on, the air quality is terrible, not to mention the smell, it’s not like a clean, fire wood smell, it’s, well, awful. I am ready for rain and cooler weather. Speaking of cooler weather, I started a Fall Fashion board on Pinterest. Not that I can afford, to buy even one of these outfits, but it sure is fun. It reminds me of my fashion merchandising days. Check it out, and tell me what you think?

Right now, I am pondering a difficult decision. I am asking you, my friends, to pray for me to the Lord our God for discernment. Fortunately, we will have a special guest this week. On Saturday, we will have the honor of having this statue of Mary in our home. It represents the Lady of Fatima, and is called the Pilgrim Lady of Fatima. The statue is shared throughout our parish; it spends a week with a family. Whether you are Catholic or not, Mary is a beautiful example of listening and obeying the word of God.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
On your own understanding rely not;
In all your ways be mindful of Him
And he will make straight your paths.”
(Proverbs 3: 5-6)

Reflection for the weekend:
“It was not that this man sinned, or his parents,
But that the works of God might be made manifest in him.
As long as I am in the world, I am light of the world.”
(John 9:3, 5)

I hope you have a relaxing, and peaceful weekend. For more Quick Takes, see Jennifer at Conversion Diary.
Just this morning, I was brought to tears over just a little thing. I scrounged around yesterday for any spare cash I could find to buy fall clothes for the children at the consignment sale. (Our finances are unusually tight right now, as it is for so many.) I had $9 left over. And this morning when I went to take the kids to school, I had forgotten about needing to send money with them. Guess how much they needed? Nine dollars. Something so simple(a coincidence or not) just brought me to tears. As I pulled away from the school, I heard the sound of my grandmother in my mind: "God will provide." Praise God from whom all blessings flow.
*Praying for you in the decision-making process.*

Praying for your discernment. I can't believe it's another Friday.

Your little one will do fine with glasses my grandson Samuel has worn them for at least two years now and has progressed so well with them. One eye was not ok and they had to give him eye patches and extra little exercises with it. He has done wonderful they have some really cute childrens frames. It will be ok. Your insurance will probably pay for it, check into your husbands work plans.

Not to worry, Joe wore glasses when he was nine. We couldn't figure out what the problem was with reading. He loved to read but had trouble. He needed glasses! However, his first pair didn't last long. He "polished" them on the front porch while waiting for the Sunday School bus. It may be that the children's eye doctor can find something specific that can be fixed with exercises or such. Bumblebee won't need to worry about gettting glasses....
Love, Gram

And I meant to add that Mary was always a fixture in my Grandmother's home. I thought about that a lot (my grandmother's house and her statues of Mary) when I was at the Vatican. I said prayers there for you, Rick, and your little ones.

Mary if you're still looking for an eye Dr, we see Dr Dunn with Beach Eye Care. The kids love him so much that I see him too. Very kind and funny. Grace has been wearing glasses since 3rd grade and in 4th started wearing them all the time. I think she looks great in them and she does a really great job taking care of them. Not sure if you can shop the Exchange but they have the BEST prices ever. I could kick myself for all the years I've purchased glasses elsewhere!

Thanks Kristy for the information on the doctor and the Exchange. I may have an inside connection who can help us with that.
