First, I want to thank God for keeping my family safe during Hurricane Irene. My biggest fear was that a tree would go through my house and kill one of my beautiful babies. That did not happen in fact, we were very lucky all around, no damages, just a lot of yard work, and no power, or internet...
Today, I am back! Here are some of the sights, sounds and smells of the past 72 hours.
Look who I found in the garden...
- The noisy old generator that used more oil than gas.
- Coffee and omelets on the grill.
- Cold showers
- Sweltering nights with no air conditioning.
- The pitch black of our hallway bathroom.
- The buzzing of a zillion mosquitoes
- The smell of DEET
- Cold sandwiches and cold beer.
- and a grateful heart.
"I love you, Lord, my strength,
Lord, my rock, my fortress, my
deliverer,
My God, my rock of refuge,
my shield, my saving horn, my
stronghold!"
Psalm 18: 2-3
The tree coming through the house is my biggest fear too. Glad we were all safe! Hope you can come to book club in Sept. I think it's going to be a great meeting.

Mary,
We are tucked into the mountains and didn't feel much of Irene, but I must say I love the title of your post...it made me start singing that old song, "Come on, Eileen".
Glad you bounced over to my place so I could discover yours. Can't wait to click around a bit!

I wish I had known you didn't have power. We only lost it for 1 1/2 hours. Tim's brother wanted us to go to Richmond and it's a week later and they still don't have power. You could have come here....big house for just us. anyway, something to keep in mind. Glad you are all safe and I am sure the girls loved the turtle!

Thanks Geri! We were fine, and it made us all appreciate things more.
